Metastable, stabilize, stable, unstable, stability, and
destabilize, stasis, stagnant, and stationary all seem to relate to stopping,
holding, and staying in one place or halting progression. Stalactite, stalagmite, and enstatite all
relate to minerals and growth. Stature,
status, statue, and stanchion show height, position, and power of some
kind. It seems like almost all of the
words can be used to describe either a state, position, or progression (or lack
of progression) of some sort.

who was honored as a man able to create a feeling of stability in which he did not destabilize the status of the towns
reputation despite the obstacle
to overcome the stagnant
way in which the previous constable,
who suffered from astasia,
had been unable to stabilize
crime, while holding his station,
in a town whose progress had reached a state of stasis, as statistics had shown.
Sometimes I feel like my life has reached a point of stasis and I am no longer progressing, but remaining stagnant and stationary instead. Due to some obstacles that I have been trying to overcome in my life, I often feel unstable and wish that I could change the status of my station. My stature has taken a beating and shrunk to reflect the way I feel which oftentimes would require a stanchion to stabilize me and allow me to look others in the eye. I know that statistics show I can overcome these obstacles, but sometimes the stative position that I am seeking does not seem obtainable. I feel like I do not have the stability I need and am suffering from an emotional astasia which does not allow me to stand.
